First Texas Bank in Belton traces its history back to September, 1868, with the formation of Miller, Chamberlain & Company, a partnership engaged in the general mercantile trade. Miller, Chamberlain began extending credit on goods purchased and because they owned the only safe in town, soon began receiving "deposits". By supplying customers with used cloth lead-shot bags within which to place their gold coins and tagging them with the customer's name, they began what would eventually evolve into checking and savings accounts.

The present day First Texas Bank was originally chartered on October 22, 1933 as Farmers National Bank for the purpose of purchasing select assets of Belton National Bank which failed during the Great Depression. On June 27, 1944 the name was changed to The First National Bank in Belton, Texas and it remained so named for the ensuing 48 years until December 31, 1992 when the bank was chartered as First Texas Bank - Belton a state bank by the Texas Department of Banking.

The bank was acquired in 1977 by its current owner First Texas Bancorp, Inc., headquartered in Georgetown, Texas and was moved to its present location in May, 1980. The total assets of the bank have grown from $10,629,672 in 1978 to over $45,000,000.
